PPV Shortage - March 2019

Staff should note that there is currently a shortage of Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (PPV23) and that new supplies are not expected until mid - September. The general principles governing vaccination of priority groups during a vaccine shortage are contained in the letter sent from PHE to all Practices in England and Wales in 2017. These principles still apply. Staff are advised to contact the PHPU by email to assist in risk assessment of patients - only the PHPU can authorise supply of vaccine from the Pharmacy Distribution Centre (PDC) for those patients in the relevant priority groups.
