Literature search


There are a number of different referencing styles in use and many organisations, institutions and publications have developed their own style. The following links are intended to present an overview of some of the most common and widely used styles. If you are currently studying or preparing material for publication, please consult with the organisation / institution to check whether they have a particular style / format.

National Library of Medicine guidance on the Vancouver Reference style as recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE): includes several examples of citing various documents

ICMJE site which provides guidance and explanations of the uniform standards for submitting and editing work for biomedical publication: including referencing, peer review and conflict of interest.
