For minor injuries such as cuts that need stitches, broken bones, sprains and minor burns, please call 111 and ask for our Minor Injury Units (MIU) service. NHS 24 will provide you with advice on next steps, which may include a virtual or telephone consultation, and/ or, a face-to-face appointment at one of our MIUs.
If you are referred to the MIU, your assessment will be carried out by a team of highly experienced staff, led by Emergency Nurse Practitioners giving you quick access to health information, advice and treatment. Treatment includes being able to arrange x-rays if required, apply plasters or splints and stitch and dress wounds.

At other times you should call NHS 24 on 111, they'll help you get the right care, right place, right time. Or you could attend your local Emergency Department, however you will wait longer because people with more serious injuries and conditions will be treated first.
For stomach upsets, coughs or a high temperature then self-care, pharmacy or your GP is the answer. You should NOT go to an MIU for treatment. An MIU does NOT deal with illnesses. Get the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
"I attended the Minor Injuries unit at the Vale Hospital on Sunday 12.01.20 after a fall. I was very impressed with the care I received from reception, nursing and x-ray staff. I was seen promptly and given great care and advice. I was informed that I would be referred to Physiotherapy and have already received a letter inviting me to phone for an appointment with them. I feel we are very lucky to have this local service."
"I attended Stobhill minor injuries unit after a fall. I was seen treated, diagnosed and home again in 3 hours. Staff were terrific, friendly and efficient. Can't praise the unit highly enough. Our Scottish NHS is terrific. Thank you."

I would like to give all the staff of the Vale of Leven Hospital a great big thank you.
My four-year-old daughter Bonnie had an accident at her wonderful nursery and as a result, ended up with a fractured arm.
It only took one hour from her entering the hospital to her walking out after receiving wonderful treatment which included X-rays to confirm and locate the break, pain relief as no doubt it was hurting, a plaster cast and a complete rundown for us as parents on what to do next and what to look out for.
I can only thank all those concerned in her treatment from the bottom of my heart.
