Patients and Visitors
The days of smoking on NHS grounds have drawn to a close.
Patients and visitors should refrain from smoking:
This ambitious move to achieve smokefree status in the grounds of every hospital, health centre and NHS building across NHSGGC is part of a national drive to create a tobacco free generation within Scotland by 2034.
Our commitment is to provide a smokefree, clean and healthy environment for all staff, patients and visitors to work and visit
Patients who need to stay over in hospital will not be allowed to smoke on site. However, if you feel you really need to smoke and don't want to take advantage of our stop smoking services, you can access Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) patches from staff.
If you are a patient who requires care in your own home, you will be asked not to smoke before and during a visit by health staff.
For more information, see our Smokefree Policy (PDF) and the Scottish Government website http://smokefreegrounds.org/
E-Cigarettes
Use of E-cigarettes will be permitted for patients, visitors and staff.
E-cigarettes may be used in hospital grounds, but NOT within buildings and NOT around main entrances, fire exits and any other doorways.
Guidance will be provided by staff regarding safe charging and storage of e-cigarettes and accessories.
