Wheelchair and Seating Service (WSS)

The Wheelchair Service provides wheelchairs to people of all ages who have a long term disability that affects their mobility. We also provide specialist equipment for wheelchairs for postural support and pressure relief. 

WestMARC is an NHS department within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde who provide wheelchair services to people in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Argyll Ayrshire and Arran, Dumfries and Galloway, Lanarkshire and Forth Valley Health Boards.

The WSS is the largest service provided by Westmarc with a caseload exceeding 42,000 wheelchair users. Clinics are conducted within the Centre and at many satellite locations across the West of Scotland. There has been significant growth in the therapy and bioengineering team over the last few years, the wheelchair and seating service now employs over 120 people and there is progress in delivering the service more locally across the West of Scotland area.

The WSS is based at theWestMARC Centre, in the Southern General Hospital.  The services that we offer include clinical appointments and assessments as well as a telephone patient support service and these are provide by; Bioengineers, Occupational Therapists, Physio Therapists,  Technical Officers and Administrative Staff.

The WestMARC Yoker Depot is responsible for ordering and storage of wheelchairs, accessories and spares, a refurbishment program and the fabrication or modification of equipment. the Yoker depot is also responsible for the delivery, uplift and repair of wheelchairs of routine seating equipment.
