What happens if a fall does happen?

Whilst we do try our best to prevent falls should your loved one have a fall during their stay the following will happen:

  • They will be checked for injury before being assisted off the floor using special equipment if needed.
  • A doctor will attend and do a further check.
  • If you are identified as next of kin you should receive a phone call to let you know that this has happened.
  • The fall will be recorded on our incident recording system Datix.
  • Staff will redo risk assessment and may change some things to try to prevent another fall from happening.
  • A referral may be made to the Hospital Falls Prevention Coordinator(HFPC) for further advice.
