Due to the current situation, it is more important than ever to know what steps you can make to prevent yourself from falling. Although common, falling is not an inevitable consequence of getting older. There are many factors that can cause you to fall. It is possible to prevent many falls by addressing some of these risk factors. Whilst the CFPP are here to help there are a few key things that you can do to keep yourself safe and well. These include:
• Keeping yourself active. For more information on how you can do this please see the following information.
• Ensure your home environment is safe. Avoiding hazards that may lead to a slip or a trip in your house and garden is key. Please see the following information on simple checks you can make.
• Ensure you are well. If you have any concerns about any aspect of your health please contact your GP as changes to your health can lead to an increased risk of falls.
• Ensure you take all your prescribed medication as directed. If you have any concerns about your medications please talk to your GP or pharmacist. They can complete a medication review, as some medication can affect your falls risk. For further information please see falls pharmacy section.
