Orthotics

Welcome to the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Orthotics service information page.

Our Orthotics team is made up of 16 Orthotists and we work across 8 hospital sites. We only see patients at the hospital; we do not have any clinics in the community. To find your closest Orthotics services see the list of hospitals on the link

Who are we?

Orthotists are Allied Health Care Professionals registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) who specialise in the assessment of the whole body for biomechanical problems and if appropriate may prescribe, measure, fit or review an Orthosis.

What do we do?

An Orthotist will assess tendons, ligaments, bones, joints, nerves and other structures and chose an appropriate treatment plan in order to:

  • Improve your movement and strength
  • Help you to do more of your normal activities
  • Help you reduce or manage your pain
  • Help you to understand and manage your problem with our support

We can prescribe and supply Orthotic devices including prescription footwear, insoles, ankle foot orthoses, knee braces, wrist hand orthoses, pressure redistribution devices and spinal braces, but we can also give advice about what you can do to improve your own health and manage your condition.
