Welcome to the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Musculoskeletal out-patient physiotherapy service. The Musculoskeletal physiotherapy service (or MSK for short) is based in health centres and out-patient departments across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. To find your nearest MSK physiotherapy department view our Interactive Map.
During the current Covid-19 pandemic the Government and NHS GG&C have introduced policies to keep both you and NHS staff safe to prevent the spread of Coronovirus.
Our MSK Physiotherapy service is therefore gradually re-opening some of our departments for a limited number of physical face-to-face appointments where it is possible & safe to do so. However in the majority of cases your course of treatment can be successfully & safely managed remotely using telephone or video consultations.
All initial appointments for assessment will be by telephone (unless a specific need is identified).
Appointments may last up to 45minutes as we will ask you questions about your condition & health. Everything you tell us is confidential. It is therefore important that you are able to take the call in a quiet / private area.
After your assessment, we will discuss your condition, agree goals and a treatment plan with you. Treatment is likely to include an exercise programme specific to your needs & how you can manage your condition yourself. You are free to withdraw your consent at any time.
If the physiotherapist recommends a physical face-to-face appointment they will discuss this with you, explain the benefits, risks and current health & safety measures in place to help you make an informed decision about whether you wish to attend a department.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Did Not Attend and Cancellation Policy

If you cancel an appointment on more than 2 occasions we will discharge you.

An MSK physiotherapist will asses and treat patients who have any injury, disease or problem that relates to muscles, bones, joints and peripheral nerves. They may also provide advice to help you manage your condition or refer you to other services.
There are several ways you can access MSK physiotherapy. You can ask your G.P. (alt Doctor) to refer you, you may be referred through another NHS service or you can refer yourself directly. We need some information to help us provide the right service for you, so in order to refer yourself to MSK physiotherapy please complete our Self Referral Form and take or post it to your Local Physiotherapy Department. Paper copies are also available from your local physiotherapy department or GP surgery.
The What Happens Next leaflet explains what will happen once we receive your referral.
Our Patient Information Leaflet will give you more information regarding our service and useful things to know before you attend an appointment with us.
