We provide a range of inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy services in 7 locations across GGC (see below). The service is managed by the Team Lead Physiotherapist for Gynaecology & Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy. The team consists of Specialist Physiotherapists including rotational staff. We also support both Undergraduate and Masters Physiotherapy students from GCU and further afield.
This service supports patients having major gynaecological surgery at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. FACT CHECK PLS
All patients undergoing major gynaecological surgery are offered pre-operative support, education and input in line with the Gynaecology Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (GERAS) guidelines. Physiotherapists work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the Gynaecology wards to provide appropriate post-operative support & advice as indicated.
PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY (PFP)
This service is an outpatient service for male and female patients. We see a range of complex presentations including; bladder dysfunction, bowel dysfunction, Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Sexual Dysfunction and Perineal Pain. This service is accessed via a referral system. Referrals to the service come from a variety of sources, including; GPs, Gynaecology, Urogynaecology, Urology, Surgical, Colorectal, Dermatology, Gastroenterology and allied health professionals. PFPs work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary teams to deliver the Combined Colorectal Clinic and Perineal Clinic based at QEUH.
