Some of our most popular challenges at Active Staff are our Walking Challenges which take place once or twice a year. Staff team up with their colleagues and record their steps for a set period, plotting them against a virtual route.
Below you'll find information on our previous Walking Challenges - the routes staff tackled and the total distances walked. While staff enjoy healthy competition with their colleagues throughout, the focus of the challenges is individuals trying to increase their physical activity through walking.
In January and February 2018 2,352 members of NHS and local authority staff took on the Wild Atlantic Way, a virtual route along the West Coast of Ireland. In total, participants walked over 530 million steps, or 227,000 miles. This was all the more impressive given the wintry conditions during the 4 weeks of our challenge as shown in some of our selfies above!
Walking Challenge 2017
Our 6 week walking challenge took place during May and June 2017. The chosen route was 'Wonders of the UK' a 1,000 mile walk which took in some of the most remarkable natural and man-made landmarks from the northern islands to the southern coastline. In total 2,605 members of staff took part and walked an incredible 640,568km.
