Defining and Gaining Commitment to Change

Below is a toolkit to help sponsors and change agents identify the various natural barriers to change in their organisation and practical strategies to ensure implementation success.

The Change Management Framework 

Tools to Define the Change

Complete and use the PID template with the sponsor and stakeholders to get common agreement and detailed description of the change project.

Use the Impact of Change template to facilitate a process with stakeholders where all those impacted by the change are identified and to estimate the nature of the impact for them.

Tools for Culture Alignment & Change Readiness

Ask stakeholders and others associated with the change project to complete the culture and readiness questionnaire then add the responses into the raw data section of the excel template. The template will automatically summarise and display the results graphically.

Answer the project alignment questions and add responses to the raw data section to give a comparison of the project outcomes vs the prevailing culture.

Tools for Sponsorship and Change Agents

Complete the questionnaire with the sponsor and others associated with the change and add the responses to the excel template for an assessment of sponsor commitment and change agent capability.

Tools for Building Commitment

Use the excel template with the project sponsor and project team in order to identify and track the commitment of key stakeholders to the change project and to plan and monitor engagement and communication activities and effectiveness.

Use commitment mapping to illustrate the structure and roles in the organisation upon which the change project applies and identify areas or ‘black holes’ where commitment is low. Share and discuss with project sponsor.

Overall Change Healthcheck

Use this short questionnaire to check the overall status and ‘health’ of the change project in change management terms. Add the responses to the raw data section of the excel template and review the resulting graphs to focus attention on weak areas.
