More Information

The New Victoria Hospital opened its doors to patients for the first time on 8th June 2009. The £100 million hospital is one of the most modern and well equipped in Scotland.

It provides an attractive and welcoming environment for patients and visitors with light, airy public spaces, comfortable waiting areas and modern consulting rooms.

Patients not only benefit from modern new facilities. The way care is provided from the hospital has also changed for the better.

Services have been redesigned around the needs of the patient to enhance the quality of care and speed up diagnosis and treatment.

About 400,000 patients will attend the hospital every year.

In addition to outpatient clinics, day surgery and diagnostic services, the hospital provides a number of specialist services such as cardiology and gynaecology.

There is also a Minor Injuries Unit with its own dedicated entrance for rapid access to a highly skilled clinical team. The unit is open seven days a week 9am - 9pm.

A&E and Minor Injuries Services are available in a number of locations. Use our postcode finder to see which is the right one for you.

Patients from south-east Glasgow, Rutherglen and Cambuslang requiring an MRI scan, renal dialysis or chemotherapy are now able to get this locally at the New Victoria Hospital.

Find your nearest and opening times - use this link to enter a postcode and age of patient to locate the Minor Injury Unit you should attend.

We have 3 dedicated Minor Injury Units. They treat cuts that need stitches, broken bones in your lower arm or leg, sprains and minor burns. You are likely to get the fastest treatment for these injuries here. You will not have to wait for people with more serious injuries and conditions to be treated first.

They are open 9am to 9pm every day of the year. At other times, or for sudden serious illness, attend your nearest hospital Emergency Department.

Opening hours:

9am-9pm Monday to Sunday

Our closing time is 9pm.  After 8.45pm you may not be assessed and treated but instead triaged.  This means if you attend after this time we will assess your condition and if it requires more intensive treatment you may be required to go to the main Emergency Department at the Queen Elizabeth University hospital.

Out of Hours GP service Tel: 111

When your GP surgery is closed, and you’re too ill to wait until it re-opens, you should contact the GP Out-of-Hours Service by calling NHS 24 on 111.

When you call NHS24, you will be put through to a health professional who will ask you about your symptoms and arrange for you to see a GP if necessary. The out-of-hours GP may either call out to see you or you may be asked to attend the primary care emergency centre where the out-of-hours GPs service is based.

Please do not attend a primary care emergency centre without calling NHS 24 first.

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde out-of-hours service provides GP services to all practices in Glasgow and Clyde out-of-hours (when your doctor's surgery is closed)

Call NHS 24 on 111 now if you are unwell and need to talk to someone before your GP or dental practice reopens. This is your fastest way to the right care in the right place.

You will get advice depending on your symptoms. This could be managing symptoms at home, or visiting your local pharmacy. You might need to see an on-call doctor or other health professional. If you need to see a doctor immediately NHS 24 will arrange this for you.

Visit the NHS24 website:

General outpatient clinics are located on all three floors of the hospital. Each clinic is identified by a single letter from A to P and has its own reception and waiting area. Your appointment letter will indicate which particular clinic you should attend.

Wherever possible, outpatient clinics will offer a 'one-stop' service where a number of appointments will be scheduled on the same day. As a result many patients will leave the clinic with tests complete, results explained, and a clear outcome of the visit. For others it will be a stay of a few hours instead of admission to hospital or for separate visits to be seen at a clinic.

Spiritual Care Tel: 0141 452 3221

A Healthcare Chaplain is available to patients, visitors and staff at The New Victoria Hospital and can be contacted on 0141 452 3221.

The Sanctuary is a space designed for reflection, quietness and prayer.  There are faith and belief resources, including those for Muslim Prayer.  The Sanctuary can be found by turning left at the main reception desk, then right after the double doors.  It is open during hospital opening hours.

The Chaplaincy Service delivers spiritual and religious care to all people.  Spiritual care addresses the fundamental human need to have a sense of peace, security and hope particularly in the context of injury, illness or loss.  Healthcare Chaplains do this by being attentive to the patient’s story, looking for sources of strength and resilience, valuing the person and what is most important to them. Religious care can be a crucial aspect of this. Healthcare Chaplains work with other NHS staff to ensure that these needs are met and, where appropriate, in partnership with local faith and belief groups.

Please visit our web page for more information on the Spiritual Care and Healthcare Chaplaincy Service.

If you have a general  enquiry you can email us on [email protected] and our patient leaflet can be accessed here NHSGGC Spiritual Care Team Patient Leaflet 2019.

An NHS Healthcare Chaplain is always on-call and ward staff can arrange for them to be paged.  A Roman Catholic Priest is also available at all times.
