Information for healthcare professionals

PET-CT scanning has been shown to benefit patient care in oncology, neurology, cardiology and many other applications.

In Scotland, PET-CT scanning has been resourced following a health technology assessment in which certain uses of PET-CT imaging have been prioritised while PET-CT imaging is phased in.

If referring a patient for a PET-CT scan, the national referral form should be completed and faxed to 0141 301 7825.

The national guidance for PET-CT referrals are provided here for information. Please note however that referrals are not restricted to these pathologies and referrals for PET-CT scanning for other indications may be authorised if sufficient information is provided to justify the procedure.

If there is any doubt about the clinical applicability of a PET scan, please contact of the PET/CT consultants to discuss (0141 301 7800).
