What 18 weeks means to patients and the public

By December 2011, the longest you will wait from being referred by your GP to starting your treatment will be 18 weeks.

Any hospital appointments, tests, scans or other procedures that you may need before being treated will happen within this time limit.

Benefits To Patients

The 18 Week RTT programme has clear benefits for patients:

  • Faster access to treatment and care
  • Earlier relief of symptoms
  • Greater confidence in the NHS
  • Better understanding of what to expect from your treatment and care, and when to expect it
  • Prompt attention at the right time, right place and with the right person
