The prestigious Chairman’s Awards 2011 were expanded into four categories; Nursing, Improving Health, Environmental and Clinical Practice, following a growing number of diverse and innovative entries from the whole spectrum of NHSGGC.
The judging panel considered every single entry from each category in great detail during the hard task of selecting the winners.
It proved such an enormous task that multiple winners were chosen in the Nursing and Improving Health categories and it was decided to introduce an overall winner – the Chairman’s Award of Excellence!
The Chairman’s Award of Excellence has, this year, been awarded to Chris Kelly, who also won in the Nursing category. Chris has been awarded for his outstanding dedication and commitment to his patients, profession and colleagues.
We received eleven separate nominations for Chris, from his patients, nursing colleagues and doctors he works alongside.
All his nominators spoke exceptionally highly of Chris, the way he works and his winning personality.
According to one of his nominators Chris has ‘undoubtedly improved the quality of care in his patient group’. Another says he is simply ‘exceptionally well liked by everyone’.
Chris has made major contributions to the service including the creation of advice podcasts aimed at younger patients who really didn’t connect with more traditional printed patient leaflets.
Another of his many initiatives included setting up a telephone helpline allowing patients to phone in with any questions or queries and they are called back with an answer within a 48 hour timescale.
One doctor who works alongside Chris wrote in his nomination ‘It is a great pleasure to recommend Christopher Kelly for the Award for Nursing. In my entire career in medicine I have never met a nurse like him’.
