    Minor Injuries Unit Tel: 111

This is a Minor Injuries Unit, not an Emergency Department. Please see this page for further information on who and what an MIU will treat, and who and what they can't treat.

A&E and Minor Injuries Services are available in a number of locations. Use our postcode finder to see which is the right one for you.

From 8am until 9pm, the Unit is run by experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioners.  You can meet one of our experts in the video below.

From 9pm until 8am, the MIU service for the Vale of Leven is staffed by the GP Out of Hours team.

Nurses will assess and treat adults and children over 1 year old.

Following assessment, some patients may require referral to another hospital outwith the local area.

You should also attend A&E with a minor injury when the MIU is closed.

Vital information for parents or carers

What if my child is under 1?

If your child is less than 1 year old you should attend the A&E Department at Royal Hospital for Children in Govan, or the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Remember, the MIU is only intended for people with less serious injuries who are aged 1 year and older. If your child has an illness they should not be taken to a Minor Injuries Unit. For advice on this you can contact NHS 24 on 111 or get in touch with your GP.

If you are uncertain about what to do you should contact NHS 24 on 111 or if you think it is an emergency you should go to the Royal Hospital for Children, Govan, the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, or phone 999.

Our video below also demonstrates when parents or carers should take children to the Vale of Leven MIU.

Find your nearest and opening times - use this link to enter a postcode and age of patient to locate the Minor Injury Unit you should attend.

We have 3 dedicated Minor Injury Units. They treat cuts that need stitches, broken bones in your lower arm or leg, sprains and minor burns. You are likely to get the fastest treatment for these injuries here. You will not have to wait for people with more serious injuries and conditions to be treated first.

Our MIUs are open every day of the year, but each has their own opening hours so please check before attending using our Find My Nearest.  At other times, or for sudden serious illness, attend your nearest hospital Emergency Department.

    Opening hours:

Our dedicated MIU is open 8.00am until 9.00pm every day. Outside those hours, the service is staffed by GP Out of Hours team.

Always call NHS24 on 111 if you think you need to attend an MIU.

A Healthcare Chaplain is available to The Vale of Leven Hospital and can be contacted on 0141 314 9561 or 0141 314 7365.

The Hospital Chapel is on the ground floor of the hospital opposite the main entrance. This is available for patients, relatives and staff as a place of peace, quiet and prayer. There is also a book provided for written prayers and reflections and a range of religious resources available including prayer mats.  (If it is not open please speak to staff at Reception.)

The Chaplaincy Service delivers spiritual and religious care to all people.  Spiritual care addresses the fundamental human need to have a sense of peace, security and hope particularly in the context of injury, illness or loss.  Healthcare Chaplains do this by being attentive to the patient’s story, looking for sources of strength and resilience, valuing the person and what is most important to them. Religious care can be a crucial aspect of this.  Healthcare Chaplains work with other NHS staff to ensure that these needs are met and, where appropriate, in partnership with local faith and belief groups.

Please visit our web page for more information on the Spiritual Care and Healthcare Chaplaincy Service.

If you have a general  enquiry you can email us on [email protected] and our patient leaflet can be accessed here NHSGGC Spiritual Care Team Patient Leaflet 2019.

An NHS Healthcare Chaplain is always on-call and ward staff can arrange for them to be paged.  A Roman Catholic Priest is also available at all times.
