Accident and Emergency Tel: 01475 504351

This is an Emergency Department. We prioritise people who have a serious injury or accident or who have a sudden serious illness or medical condition. It may be more appropriate and you may be seen more quickly by your GP or another health care professional rather than waiting for treatment here.

If you think that someone's life is at risk you should call 999 right away.

A&E and Minor Injuries Services are available in a number of locations. Use our postcode finder to see which is the right one for you.

Children with serious illnesses and injuries who are less than one year of age should be taken to the Royal Hospital for Children, Govan, Glasgow. Children from one year on should either go to your designated A&E department or to the Royal Hospital for Children.

You can find out more about which conditions may be seen and treated more quickly elsewhere from our Know who to turn to pages.

Spiritual Care and the Hospital Sanctuary Tel: 01475 504759

The Healthcare Chaplain for Inverclyde Royal Hospital can be contacted on 01475 504759.

The Hospital Sanctuary is on level E, room E52.  There is a Book of Remembrance and a book available to patients and carers to write prayers and reflections. A range of religious resources are available including prayer mats.

The sanctuary is open for use by all patients, relatives and staff.

The Chaplaincy office is opposite the sanctuary - Room E51.

The Chaplaincy Service delivers spiritual and religious care to all people.  Spiritual care addresses the fundamental human need to have a sense of peace, security and hope particularly in the context of injury, illness or loss.  Healthcare Chaplains do this by being attentive to the patient’s story, looking for sources of strength and resilience, valuing the person and what is most important to them. Religious care can be a crucial aspect of this.  Healthcare Chaplains work with other NHS staff to ensure that these needs are met and, where appropriate, in partnership with local faith and belief groups.

Please visit our web page for more information on the Spiritual Care and Healthcare Chaplaincy Service.

If you have a general  enquiry you can email us on [email protected] and our patient leaflet can be accessed here NHSGGC Spiritual Care Team Patient Leaflet 2019.

An NHS Healthcare Chaplain is always on-call and ward staff can arrange for them to be paged.  A Roman Catholic Priest is also available at all times.
