Information and guidance for public, NHSGGC staff, and community-based services.  Hospital visiting restrictions now in place.


Vitality exercise classes have been specifically designed for people living with medical conditions such as; Parkinson’s disease, MS, Stroke, Cardiac Conditions, Osteoporosis, Cognitive impairments and COPD. It is also ideal for those who have a fear of falling or find their strength and balance is starting to impact on their daily lives.

Vitality is delivered by highly trained staff meeting the required national fitness qualifications as well as having undertaken bespoke NHS GG&C Vitality training, delivered by a range of condition specific physiotherapists.  There are various classes available within the Vitality programme each designed to build and maintain strength, improve co-ordination and flexibility meaning that your patients can participate in a safe, comfortable, and above all else fun environment. Classes last for approximately 60 minutes in total with a warm up, main section and cool down/stretch included.

What next?

If your patient is eligible and would like to attend Vitality, please support them to complete the Suitability Questionnaire. Your patient will need to pass this form to the instructor on their first visit so we always suggest that new people turn up to the class 10 minutes early so they can introduce themselves to the instructor and discuss their specific needs. Please note if any questions on section 1 of the suitability questionnaire are ticked yes – please follow the additional Vitality guidance.  

It is not essential to book the first class, however to avoid disappointment booking is advised, especially if someone has mobility issues. Please encourage your patient to call 0141 232 1860  to discuss the best Vitality class for them, find out costs and reserve their place. 


A small charge for Vitality applies and is payable upon attendance. Costs vary by local authority, please see the relevant Local Authority webpage for details.

Who is not suitable? 

If the answer is YES to any of the following questions your patient will not be eligible for direct access to Vitality without further investigation or medical authorisation, in this instance please call 0141 232 1860 to discuss next steps: 

  • Do they lose their balance because of dizziness or do they frequently lose consciousness (black out)?
  • Do they feel pain in their chest at rest or when they do physical activity?
  • Do they get short of breath at rest or doing light activity?
  • Have their Doctor ever said that they have a heart condition e.g. Heart attack, angina, heart palpitations, valve replacement, by-pass, other?
  • Have they ever had a stroke?
  • Has their Doctor ever advised them not to participate in exercise?
