NMC local register of mentors
In line with NMC requirements, a local register of mentors and sign-off mentors has been established and is held and maintained for practice learning experiences (placement areas) by the PEF/ CHEF team. This information ensures that there are sufficient numbers of mentors to support the number of students undertaking NMC approved programmes.
Maintaining your mentor status
To maintain your mentor status you must have a three yearly (triennial) review of your mentorship practice, at which you must have evidence of having:

An annual updating leaflet has been developed which provides examples of how you can achieve and evidence annual updating activities.
The mentorship record will assist you to document your ongoing mentor development for KSF personal development plan/ review and demonstrate evidence for your triennial review.
The NMC domains and outcomes and NHS KSF document provides guidance which will support the implementation and embedding of the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) within NHS Boards. It clearly demonstrates the key part KSF can play within the nursing and midwifery mentoring role. At the same time it provides reassurance for the individual mentor that their mentoring activities will supply appropriate and relevant evidence for the KSF development review process.
Retrieval of Mentorship Status
This workbook provides a 5-stage process for mentors who have been removed from the local mentor register but wish to become current mentors again. Mentors are expected to complete this workbook and declare themselves fit for purpose. This workbook will form the basis of providing evidence that they can link their previous experience and qualification as a mentor to the SLAiP Standards, will allow entry onto the local register of mentors and contribute to their continuing professional development.
