Transition to the new practice supervisor and practice assessor roles

Within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde the transition of all current mentors, sign-off mentors and practice teachers to the new practice supervisor and practice assessor roles will be through a self-declaration process following a review of the following resources:

Additional support and guidance can be obtained from the practice education team (PEFs and CHEFs)

Listen to our audio podcasts at a time to suit you. We offer a series of 5 podcasts giving information on the new NMC standards and one dedicated to transition.

If you require further information, an e-Learning resource comprising 6 education units are available as PDFs but will be published in TURAS at a later date.

Supporting information for the implementation of the standards of proficiency for registered nurses and midwives

The NMC have launched a web hub containing supporting information and materials on its standards. Included are practice learning scenarios to help you understand how the new standards of proficiency will work and should be implemented in the real world. There are also recorded webinars, scenarios, briefings and leaflets. Visit the nursing web hub and the midwifery web hub for more information.

NHS Education for Scotland

The Future Nurse and Midwife Programme Board has been established to support a "Once for Scotland" approach to the implementation of the new NMC standards. Visit the webpage to find links to minutes of the meetings of the programme board, an update on the work plan progress and the approved work plan outlining the workstreams, accountable officers and deliverables associated with a "Once for Scotland" approach.

A national framework for practice supervisors, practice assessors and academic assessors in Scotland has been developed to provide guidance for the implementation of the these new roles in line with the Standards for student supervision and assessment (NMC 2018), click here to access. Also available on this webpage is the practice learning handbook for supervisors and assessors and its associated mapping document.

The Future Nurse and Midwife Programme Board communications group have published the fifth in a series of newsletters. The latest edition (Jan 2020) focuses on updating you on the progress to date from the Future Nurse and Midwife Programme Board work plan. It also looks towards what current registrants can be doing now to prepare for supporting students in September 2020.
