CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

*UPDATED* Hospital visiting changes, home testing kits, Vaccine info, general info and guidance for public, NHSGGC staff, and community-based services.

Omitted Medicines

"Omitted medicines can have a significant impact on patients in terms of loss of therapeutic effect and risk of deterioration, particularly for ‘critical medicines’. Opportunities for medicines to be omitted can occur at many stages of the medicines management pathway for a variety of reasons." (SPSP Medicines)

Reducing omitted medicines can therefore positively impact on patient safety and NHSGGC is continuing to develop resources to support local teams to do so using a quality improvement approach. In addition, we partnered with two other Boards, as well as SPSP Medicines and Excellence in Care to test and develop a measure for omitted medicines in the Excellence in Care framework. A report describing the collaboration is available here.

Measurement for Improvement

As part of the collaboration, two tools to support measurement for improvement were developed:

Medicines Omissions Bundle – A tool to decrease Medicine Omissions in your clinical area

A bundle was developed by NHSGGC focussing on improving our rates of Medicine Omissions through using the Medicines Omission Tool. You might wish to look at two posters that describe some of the testing while developing the tool, initially in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, and recently at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. Have a look at a short video that describes the practical application of the tool:

Below are all of the resources you will need to implement this tool in your own area. Click on each to download a copy:
