  • University of Strathclyde Statistics Course for NHS Staff

The courses are funded by the Scottish Funding Council and are free of charge for all NHS staff. When you sign up, you will become a University of Strathclyde student and on completion you will be awarded 10 university credits and a transcript which can go towards professional CPD. As a student you will have access to university facilities and software packages for statistical analysis which you can download to your own laptop.

The courses assume no prior statistical knowledge. You can choose to use Minitab or R Studio for the practical sessions. Since this course is worth 10 SCQF level 7 credits, is a there is short assignment which you will be required to complete at the end and you have to complete all 4 classes.

For admin purposes you will have to complete a registration form after which you will receive an email with details of how to register with us as a student. This will allow you to access our computer network and statistical software packages. The Spring dates are:

Thursday February 20, 2-5pm: Part 1: an introduction to medical statistics including an introduction to Minitab and R Studio

Thursday February 27, 2-5pm: Part 2: correlation and regression analysis 

Thursday March 12, 2-5pm: Part 3: hypothesis testing

Thursday March 19, 2-5pm: Part 4: power and sample size calculations + assignment

Summer:

Thursday June 4, 2-5pm: Part 1: an introduction to medical statistics including an introduction to Minitab and R Studio

Thursday June 11, 2-5pm: Part 2: correlation and regression analysis 

Thursday June 18, 2-5pm: Part 3: hypothesis testing

Thursday June 25, 2-5pm: Part 4: power and sample size calculations + assignment

  • Chest Drain Management

Ann Marie Beirne, on 6/3/20 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, 10am till 11.30am.

The first CPD session for NHSGGC ANPs in 2020! Hosted by Ann Marie Beirne, an experienced nurse in Cardiothoracics at GJNH this session will offers practical guidance and trouble shooting around different chest drain management systems, including the Thopaz.

10 places offered to established ANPs in NHSGGC, with any remaining places being offered to tANPs (this will be advertised on the tANP Moodle site). If this session generates a lot of interest, there is flexibility for future sessions.

  • An Introduction to Heart Murmurs' CPD Session

The next planned CPD session for ANPs will focus upon cardiac auscultation. This will be delivered initially in lecture format followed by a 'hands on' auscultation of listening to common heart murmurs using a Sim Man 3G. This session will be facilitated by Christine Groundwater an experienced and knowledgable Cardiothoracic ANP from the Golden Jubilee National Hospital. The venue and date for this session is:

 10 places are offered for ANPs within NHSGGC on a first come first served basis. If any places remaining then trainee ANPs will be offered this opportunity and it will be posted on the Trainee ANP Information site on Moodle.
