NHSGGC Medical Education FY1 Induction

A very warm welcome to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

This site will contain all relevant information relating to your Induction.

Welcome from Dr Lindsay Donaldson - Director of Medical Education, NHSGGC

Dear Colleagues

WELCOME TO NHS GREATER GLASGOW AND CLYDE

On behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you in your role as a FY1 trainee.

You will soon be joining us and embarking on a period of induction.  Some of you will be joining on 21st July and will have 10 days of induction and shadowing; and some of you will be joining on 28th July and will have 5 days of induction and shadowing.  Hopefully your induction period is enjoyable, and there will also be a lot of information for you to take in and digest.

I am sure you will appreciate that induction is for your patients’ safety in addition to your own.  There will also be ample opportunity to meet new colleagues, friends and your new multi-disciplinary teams.

Prior to starting your new post on the 4th of August, I would like to bring to your attention two requirements:

  1. Completion of the NHSGGC Online Organisational Induction.
  2. Statutory / mandatory and role specific training.

Please ensure all of your statutory/mandatory and role specific LearnPro modules, in addition to your NHSGGC Online Organisational Induction are completed prior to starting.  Your induction period, whether it is 5 days or 10 days is paid by NHSGGC, and appropriate time has been allowed for all activities to be undertaken within that time.  I would encourage you to manage your time well to optimise your own individual learning.

There are specific details in the sections below about how to access both of these and evidence completion.

Within NHSGGC we strive for excellence in medical education and there will be feedback opportunities at the end of both the induction days and your online organisational induction.  We are genuinely interested in your constructive feedback about your shadowing time, helping us improve year upon year.

At any time in your training - if there is something going wrong or you see something which you think is incorrect or unsafe please tell someone.  You will meet your educational supervisor early on in your rotation and they will often be your first point of contact.  Please remember that your peers, colleagues, nursing staff and medical managers are there to support you in your post and help you deliver excellent patient care.

We hope you enjoy your induction and shadowing days and look forward to working with you as you start your career within medicine.

Best wishes

Dr Lindsay Donaldson
