NHSGGC Influenza/RSV Point of Care Testing (PoCT)                            

The West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre co-ordinates a seasonal point of care testing (PoCT) service for Influenza A/B and RSV. The analyser COBAS® Liat® PCR system, is provided by Roche Diagnostics. This analyser utilises gargles to provide ward staff with influenza and RSV results within 20 minutes. Please note: ICU staff have been trained to use sputum, ETA or NPS specimens on this analyser.  This only applies to ICU staff.

The  COBAS® Liat® PCR system  is currently in several wards across Glasgow and Clyde including Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Vale of Leven Hospital.

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Results will be available on clinical portal 15 minutes after the COBAS® Liat®  has finished testing the sample
