GRI Delivery: Pod address 0605

PLEASE NOTE: You MUST call the laboratory to arrange urgent testing on any sample on 38722 (0141 201 8722) or out of hours via the switchboard 1000 (0141 211 4000, ask for the Virologist on-call). No testing will be performed urgently without direct contact with the laboratory.

Please use the pneumatic tube carrier (pod) available in Glasgow Royal Infirmary whenever possible. This will DRASTICALLY reduce the time taken for results to be available.

All specimens should be placed in sealed specimen bags with a request form and placed in a pneumatic tube carrier (pod) in:

Accident & Emergency
Theatres in the Queen Elizabeth Building
Theatre Suite
Jubilee Building
All floors of the Princess Royal Maternity Wards 4-11
Wards 28-33
Ward 65

The pneumatic tube system may be used for blood samples. The pneumatic tube system should not however be used for high risk samples (including those at risk of a hazard group 3/4 pathogen or urine specimens).

The emergency blood porter should be paged to arrange transport of urgent specimens if the pod is unavailable. In the main hospital Page 1616, in the Queen Elizabeth Building page 1509.
