COVID-19 (Coronavirus info)

Information and guidance for public, NHSGGC staff, and community-based services.  Hospital visiting restrictions now in place.

Laboratory Medicine

Laboratory Services are part of the Diagnostics Directorate (along with Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Physics & Medical Illustration). Services are provided across NHSGGC in a number of locations. Information is available for each service via the Laboratory Disciplines section below.

Medical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease in patients. Laboratory tests help determine the presence, extent, or absence of disease and monitor the effectiveness of treatment. An estimated 60-70% of all decisions regarding a patient's diagnosis and treatment, hospital admission and discharge are based on laboratory test results.

Services work in a highly regulated environment that aims to ensure that laboratories provide a safe working environment for staff and are capable of delivering a consistent, accurate and safe service to patients. Further information on Accreditation and Regulation is available below.
