Every year in Scotland approximately 15,000 people suffer from a stroke or TIA (transient ischaemic attack or mini-stroke). A stroke can affect many different parts of your life. No doubt now you’ve had a stroke or TIA you’ll have lots of questions, and much that you would like to know. This handbook tries to answer the questions that people most often ask. It may seem like a lot of information but you can read it a bit at a time – we believe it will give you helpful information about your stroke. We hope it will be useful to you, your family and friends as you recover from your stroke or TIA. Concentrating on what you CAN do and coming to terms with what you CAN’T do – if you still have some disability – will help you and your family get on with living your life.
