The Gender Friendly Nursery

The Gender Friendly Nursery is an early years primary prevention strategy which was piloted in North East Glasgow and developed in partnership between Health Improvement and Zero Tolerance, Respect me, LGBT Youth Scotland, Men in Childcare and Fathers Network Scotland.

It aims to support early years establishments to promote gender equality and reduce gender stereotyping, and to understand the harms associated with lack of gender equality.  It aims to support a reduction in violence against women and girls as well as addressing men's mental health, LGBT issues, inequalities in employability and education, and other issues.

The programme includes a full day training and support pack, with an audit, action points determined, and accreditation provided. From August 2018, this will roll out Glasgow wide in partnership with Education Services.

For early years and childcare staff that have already undergone the training, and for interested parties from other local authorities or board areas, the Trainer Manual and Nursery Support Pack can be found below. For more information please contact [email protected] or [email protected]
