Coping Strategies

  • It is particularly helpful to ask the patient to identify any especially stressful events or circumstances that might trigger a return to their previous behaviour or circumstances, and to discuss these situations with them.
  • This enables the individual to avoid potential triggers and high-risk situations, and to develop appropriate coping strategies and support networks that will enable them to resist pressure, and to get back on track if they do have a lapse.
