Microsurgical workshops are run on a continuous basis throughout the year. During the course week, candidates are taught the basis of microvascular anastomosis concentrating on conventional suturing methods. It is felt a minimum of ST1 or equivalent, in a specialty needing microvascular surgery training, is required.
The workshops are practical, with every candidate operating a Zeiss microscope, to operate on in vitro and in vivo vessels. Tutors are always present. The course is taught in English. We regret we cannot provide translation.
A Personal Licence issued by the Home Office permitting in vivo work, is an essentially pre-requisite and takes at least 6 weeks to arrange.
The Home Office charge for this is £257 (this is inclusive in the £1,500 cost).
Licences for microsurgical training are only granted for the period of the course and are revoked immediately thereafter.
Advice regarding local bed and breakfast accommodation can be given if requested.
A week (Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm) at the laboratory, including all consumables (sutures etc.) costs £1,500. Food and accommodation are not included, apart from the course dinner arranged for Thursday evening, during the week.
