Professor John Brown CBE

Chairman

Professor John Brown CBE was appointed Chairman of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde from 1st December 2015.  John is also Chair of the Glasgow Centre for Population Health, the Chair of the NHS Scotland Global Citizenship Programme, the Chair of the NHS Scotland Corporate Governance Steering Group, and Co-Chair of the West of Scotland Health Sciences Network and the Glasgow Health Sciences Partnership.

In recognition of his support for research and innovation in health sciences, John was granted an Honorary Professorship in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow.  John also holds an Honorary Professorship in the University of Dundee’s School of Social Sciences in relation to his work with the Business School on the governance and leadership of transformational change in health and social care.

John was Interim Chair of NHS Tayside from April 2018 to June 2019 and a Non-Executive Member of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Board from December 2014 to November 2015. During his period as a Non- Executive Member of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, he was also a Member of both the Glasgow City and the Renfrewshire Integration Joint Boards. From April 2014 to July 2015, he was Vice Chair of the Lay Advisory Board of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow.

From June 2014 to November 2014, John was Interim Company Secretary of the Student Loans Company. Prior to this he was a Senior Civil Servant and held a variety of leadership roles at Director level in Whitehall civil service departments.

John is a Chartered Management Accountant, has an MBA degree from the University of Glasgow and is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Management and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators.

In 2010, John was awarded a CBE in recognition of his contribution to improving leadership in the public sector.
