Mum of miracle twins gives thanks on World Prematurity Day

Tuesday, November 17, 2020

A Bishopbriggs mum who has twice experienced premature births is praising the care she received on World Prematurity Day.

In 2017 Victoria Goodall’s twins spent 107 days in the care of staff at the Princess Royal Maternity after they arrived in the world 13 weeks early.

Once again – in the midst of lockdown – Victoria once again found herself in the care of NHSGGC Paediatric specialists in May this year, after little Islay was born at 34 weeks.

Victoria said: “Once again, the staff were amazing. While I was scared, having another premature baby and this time in a World pandemic, I knew I was in great hands. When Emelia and Elliot were born we spent four months in the unit and since then we have stayed in touch.

“They were all so aware of our situation and again, we received exceptional care. They kept me calm and I just knew everything would be ok. Islay is doing really well, gaining weight and growing stronger every day.

“The twins are also going from strength to strength. They are three and a half at doing well at nursery. Emelia had to have heart surgery in January and we were so grateful to get that done before lockdown. She’s recovered well and the doctors are pleased with her.”

Victoria has also benefitted from the psychological support she and her husband Ben have been given from the Princess Royal staff, including Dr Alison Robertson.

Victoria added: “Throughout my pregnancy, and after delivery the perinatal psychology team have been such a great support. I was anxious about having another premature baby and they were always there for me.

“World Prematurity Day is so important and we need to give thanks for all the amazing care we and our babies have had. I can’t thank the skilled staff at the PRM enough – and I remember how special they are every time I look at my beautiful children.”
