NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is the first NHS body in the UK to achieve accreditation for a new standard of safety and maintenance of their medical equipment.
The Medical Equipment Management Department provides a service across NHSGGC that includes all stages of medical equipment life, from procurement, maintenance and safety checks through to the decommission stage.
By replacing the generic ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard with the more specific ISO 55001 Standard for managing assets, it has allowed us to review the way we work to increase patient safety, and ensure our medical equipment is providing us with the best value possible.
Jonathan Best, Interim Chief Operating Office, NHSGGC said: “This is a major step for NHSGGC in monitoring the life and maintenance of our medical equipment.
“We are the first NHS Board to have in place one of the most up to date Asset Management System and it means that our objectives are aligned with the overall Strategic Objectives set out by the Scottish Government with respect to Healthcare.”
