Spiderman comes to the Royal Hospital for Children...nine days early

Tuesday, December 4, 2018

There might not have been a red carpet of there was lots of Spidey fun at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow last night when the latest blockbuster Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was screened in Scotland for the first time.

Patients were lucky enough to catch the first showing, nine days before it goes on general release, in the hospital’s MediCinema.

Daniel (aged 7) loved the film and said, “It was brilliant, I liked when he was bitten by the spider. It made his cells turn bluish. It was brilliant!”

Sheila Hay Pacifico, who runs the MediCinema, which is based in the Royal Hospital for Children, said: “We are over the moon that Sony Pictures was kind enough to let our patients, many of whom are very unwell, the chance to see this great film nine days ahead of its UK release.

“Supporters of our charity also have the chance to see this film early, on Thursday (6 December) when a number of Vue, Odeon, Cineworld, Showcase, Empire and independent cinemas will hold special preview screenings, with proceeds going to MediCinema.

“Please do come out and see the film on the 6th. By buying a ticket, you’ll be helping people to share a precious cinema experience together and feel better with film.”

MediCinema builds, installs and runs state-of-the-art cinemas in hospitals and places of care around the UK, giving patients and their families the magic and joy of a night at the movies together.  You can catch one of their special previews at Cineworld Silverburn, Odeon Braehead, the Vue in Hamilton and Glasgow Fort, Showcase in Glasgow East and Paisley, the Empire in Clydebank and the Glasgow Grosvenor.
