A Clinical Support Worker, who deals with children and there families attending outpatient appointments in the neurology department at the Royal Hospital for Children, has been announced regional winner of the national UK Our Health Heroes Awards.
Christine Duncanson was picked as regional winner in the Clinical Support Worker category and now goes forward as contender to win the overall award for the whole of the UK which takes place this November.
Christine was nominated by colleague Jennifer Dunne, neuromuscular nurse specialist, as she goes above and beyond her normal duties to support patients and families.
Jennifer said: “Christine has worked in the department for 17 years and her commitment and dedication is why I nominated her.
“She works closely with the families and has built up a relationship with each and every one of them as most are regular visitors.
“When children attend the clinics there are a range of measurements that need to be done including blood pressure, satuartions and test urines. Christine undertakes these tests on the children and as they are regular visitors know her well which puts them more at ease.”
Christine is delighted to be named regional winner and is grateful to Jennifer for nominating her.
She added: “I still cannot believe I have won the regional award.
“Working with the children and their families is a pleasure and I get to know them all well so they are used to me doing their tests which really makes a difference to their time in the department.
“Would I like to win the national award - who wouldn’t but being recognised as regional winner is wonderful.”
To ensure Christine wins we want everyone across Greater Glasgow and Clyde to help her achieve this by voting for her at www.skillsforhealth.org.uk/ohh.
