NHSGGC Statement in Response to Healthcare Improvement Scotland's Latest Report

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Today’s report highlights a number of positive findings about the quality of care for patients, patient dignity and respect and staff interaction with patients at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).

The report recognises that staff are involved in providing meaningful activities for patients every day and that there is a dedicated activities co-ordinator who engages with either groups of patients or patients on a one to one basis.

The inspection team also spoke to patients and relatives who were extremely complimentary about the quality of care provided by staff with comments from patients that ‘nurses have been brilliant’, ‘staff always respond quickly if I need help’, and ‘the ward is a welcoming place’.

However, we are disappointed that the report makes 14 recommendations which are mostly related to medical and nursing documentation.

We are working hard to improve this important aspect of our service and have a detailed action plan in place, along with local documentation audits, both of which will be closely monitored to ensure sustained improvement.
