The out of hours (OoH)service currently provided at Drumchapel Hospital is to transfer to Gartnavel General Hospital (GGH) following approval by the Board of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The move completes a series of changes at the hospital and follows a period of engagement to seek views on the proposal to relocate the Primary Care Emergency Centre, from patients, staff, community groups, Councillors and local HSCPs (Health and Social Care Partnerships).
The change brings together the Gartnavel and Drumchapel services on a single site which is accessible from across the catchment area. Transport is provided for patients who are not able to make their own way into the service.
NHSGGC Director of Planning, Catriona Renfrew said: “There is a clinical case to transfer this service and we are confident that patients will see little or no difference to the service they receive in the future.
“The consolidation of the services into a single centre at GGH alongside other acute services will help improve the resilience of staffing for the services across the Board area helping us to avoid short notice closures. A detailed review of access shows the GGH site is the best location for the west catchment area with good public transport links.”
