Work is set to begin next week on creating additional temporary parking spaces for staff parking permit holders.
The 584 spaces, developed on a site opposite Linthouse Road, are due to be open to staff by the end of June.
This new parking provision is in addition to the £35 Million being spent on free on-site car parking facilities for the campus.
By summer 2016, there will be three multi-storey car parks as well as existing surface level car parking.
David Loudon, Project Director said: “We are seeking to create up to a total of 4,000 spaces as part of a revised campus master plan which will be submitted to Glasgow City Council for approval. Currently, 3,500 spaces are approved.
“We are working to have this completed car parking strategy in place by the summer of 2016. The construction of new spaces is linked to the demolition of surplus accommodation which can begin once all staff and patients have transferred into the new hospital.”
In addition to parking provision, there will be 68 peak time buses per hour servicing the hospital through a combination of Fastlink and the enhanced bus service.
The £842 million South Glasgow University Hospitals bring together the existing Southern General Hospital, Western Infirmary, Victoria Infirmary and Mansionhouse Unit in the adult hospital. In addition, it will house a new teaching and learning facility, Centre for Stratified Medicine and Clinical research facilities with the new children’s hospital replacing the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill.
