Statement on Transport to New South Glasgow Hospitals
Tuesday, February 17, 2015
It’s important to make clear staff at the existing Southern General already make their way to work on the site - and other hospital sites - on public transport.
The new South Glasgow Hospitals site is already serviced by 50 buses on an hourly basis. This information has been relayed to staff in a number of ways including transport roadshows, ongoing internal communications and orientation packs for staff working at the new hospitals.
Through consultation with staff, shift patterns of those due to work at the hospitals have been tailored to maximise access to transport options.
Fastlink - which is due to come on stream with a few short weeks of the first patients being treated at the hospital - will be an enhancement to the existing transport provision. SPT is working with bus companies to register interest in operating the routes.
Once we’re aware of bus companies who will be operating further services on the Fastlink route we will make details available to staff.
The parking policy will be in operation Monday to Friday between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm. This means staff working at night and at the weekend can continue to park on site - as is the case at the moment.
The policy is rightly designed to ensure there is a balance in parking provision to meet patient and visitor parking requirements as well as staff.
Permits are only issued to staff who work across sites or perform a specialist role.
The number of spaces we can provide is regulated nationally by the campus carbon sustainability plan and the green travel plan.
