New Centre Welcomes First Patients Through Its Doors

January 29, 2015 12:00 AM

A new £2.7m centre providing modern health and social care in East Pollockshields opened its doors to patients for the first time this week.

The new Shields Centre is a modern, purpose built health and care centre for the people of East Pollokshields. The centre houses two GP Practices, district nursing, health visitors, social work and health improvement teams offering a range of services such as smoking cessation support.

Other services such as primary care mental health services and money advice will also offer support to local people.

Alex MacKenzie, Interim Director of Glasgow City Community Health Partnership (CHP) said: “This new centre opened its door to patients in East Pollokshields on Monday and offers them access to a wide range of health and social care services in state of the art facilities.

“It is a wonderful example of close partnership working bringing together the NHS, the local authority and the private sector to deliver real benefits for local communities.”

The innovative new centre offers local people the ability to see a wide range of health and social care services all under the one roof – and also includes a self-sustaining community garden which will be managed by a third sector organisation.

Peter Daniels OBE, Chair of Glasgow City CHP, added: “I am delighted to see the product of our close partnership working come to fruition. The Shields Centre is a valuable addition to the area, providing high quality, modern health and social care services for the 21st century.”

The design and construction of the new Centre was undertaken by HUB West Scotland who appointed CBC as main contractor and Anderson Bell Christie as architects.
