NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has scored a hat-trick by being shortlisted in three categories in the prestigious Inspiring City Awards.

The Herald and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce in association with PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW are hosting the second Inspiring City Awards – PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW which celebrates the people and organisations that make Glasgow great.

NHSGGC’s entry for the New South Glasgow Hospitals project has been shortlisted for two awards - in the Best Corporate Social Responsibility and in the Working Together categories. The vision for the £842 million new hospitals is to deliver world class healthcare facilities while also delivering a lasting legacy for communities in South Glasgow and across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

A major health improvement campaign is also in the running for the Legacy Award. The campaign ran in two distinct parts.

First was the launch of Active Staff which targeted NHSGGC’s 38,000 staff offering lots of opportunities to take up activity. Staff had the unique opportunity for a one-to-one consultation with a specialised fitness advisor along with access to more than 60 ‘activators’ – teams of staff who motivate their colleagues to try something new.

And the second part of the campaign saw NHSGGC join forces with the Evening Times, Glasgow Life and sportscotland to launch Active 2014 - reaching into schools, workplaces, homes and communities – to encourage members of the public to become more active.

Andrew Robertson, Chairman of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted in these categories. The New South Glasgow Hospitals project is the biggest hospital building project in Europe and has seen a tremendous amount of planning and work with partners and local communities ahead of the opening in 2015.

“The Active 2014 campaign has proved popular with both staff and members of the public. We know that obesity and inactivity is a major risk to public health and as the biggest health board in Scotland we are proud to have launched this major campaign to encourage as many people as possible to up their activity levels.”

The winners will be announced on Thursday 11 September 2014 at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow.
