Following a fire at our central laundry at Hillington the service is now up and running on a partially operational basis and will return to full normal production levels over the weekend.
No-one was hurt as a result of the fire but part of the building was damaged. We immediately put in place our well rehearsed emergency contingency arrangements to agree that neighbouring NHS Boards would help maintain supplies of linen to our hospitals.
Mary-Anne Kane, Interim Director of Facilities for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “The speed at which this has been resolved is solely down to the dedication of our staff and I would like to thank them for their quick response both to the fire and for ensuring the linen service continued which meant that patient care was unaffected.
“I would like to extend my thanks to NHS Lanarkshire for their support in ensuring that the supply of linen to our hospitals was unaffected.
“We are currently investigating the cause of the fire.”
