The maternity units of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have welcomed a number of leap year babies into the world.

The tots will now not officially celebrate their first birthdays until 2016!

Proud mum, Michelle Ness, was one of the first to give birth to a little girl at the Princess Royal Maternity.

Baby Ava was born at 03:26 am and weighed in at a healthy 6lbs 6oz. Dad Robert Travers was at the birth and both mum and dad have agreed that Ava’s birthday will be celebrated on March 1st.

Mum Michelle said: “I didn’t really think about the date when she was born this morning but everyone has been saying that it’s a special date. For me it would have been special no matter what the date.”
