Health Secretary Alex Neil visited a cardiac rehabilitation class at the New Victoria Hospital this week to meet with patients who are benefitting from the classes.
Cardiac rehabilitation is a programme of exercise and information sessions aimed at helping people recover from heart problems or heart surgery.
Mr Neil’s visit coincided with the publication of new figures which reveal that deaths from heart disease and stroke in Scotland have fallen over the past 10 years.
Statistics from ISD Scotland show that the standardised mortality rate for coronary heart disease (CHD) has reduced by 43.2 per cent since 2002, and by 41. 8 per cent for strokes.
