A brand new Paediatric Intensive Care Transport and Retrieval Service Vehicle has been donated to Yorkhill to replace the one stolen and destroyed last month.

The new vehicle, a Forester XC Diesel, was donated by Subaru dealer AF Noble in Penicuik and will transfer essential paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) staff to a range of emergency call-outs.  Staff from the unit use the vehicle to travel to other hospitals to prepare sick children and babies for transfer from all over Scotland to the PICU at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Consultant in paediatric intensive care medicine Andrew McIntyre said:  “It’s excellent that the vehicle has now been replaced – though still appalling that it’s had to be at all.  We are very grateful to Subaru and AF Noble for finding us a replacement so quickly and for supplying us with an interim vehicle while we’ve waited on our replacement.

“Having the vehicle is hugely helpful to our staff who can be contacted out-of-hours at any time to go and help sick children almost anywhere in Scotland.”

Chief Executive of Yorkhill Children’s Foundation Shona Cardle said:  “Everyone at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Yorkhill Children’s Foundation are delighted to see the PICU response vehicle being replaced so soon after the recent theft and destruction, and are extremely grateful to AF Noble and Subaru for providing a replacement vehicle so quickly.”

Michael Noble, a director of AF Noble Subaru, said:  “In collaboration with our partners at Subaru UK and Colin McRae Vision, the team at AF Noble were very happy to have provided PICU Yorkhill with the original Forester vehicle and we are absolutely delighted to be able to do so again."

Notes to editors

The Subaru Forester ambulance car serves the Paediatric Intensive Care Transport and Retrieval Service at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. The original vehicle destroyed last month was received as a gift in kind from Subaru UK, facilitated by Yorkhill Children’s Foundation in 2010. This invaluable vehicle is perfect for responding to a range of call-outs.   Intensive Care staff use the car to respond to emergencies from the intensive care unit or from home when on call.

AF Noble and Son is a long established family owned and run business with a history stretching back to 1932 and is based in Penicuik in Midlothian representing the Subaru brand.

Colin Mc Rae Vision is a charity established in honour of motorsport legend Colin McRae and works hard to raise monies for good causes which were close to Colin’s heart.
