New weekend antenatal classes being offered at the Vale of Leven Community Maternity Unit (CMU) have received a warm welcome by local mums-to-be and their birthing partners.

The weekend classes, introduced to make antenatal sessions more accessible for working mums and their partners, have been so popular that the classes have been fully booked since their launch at the start of this year.

CMU Midwife Gillian Crossley, said: “The response to the weekend classes has been fantastic. The sessions we offer are detailed, informative and practical and being available at weekends is really proving to be helpful to mums who struggle to manage it to classes mid-week.”

Over two half-days on a Saturday, mums-to-be and their birthing partners receive three hours of intensive antenatal advice and guidance during each session. On their first Saturday expectant mums attend classes focusing on labour and birth while the second class focuses on the early days of parenthood and includes a dedicated breastfeeding workshop.

Expectant mums who would like to find out more about the weekend antenatal classes should contact the CMU direct o 01389 817 276.
