Aquanatal classes have proved to be a big splash with mums-to-be attending the Vale of Leven Hospital’s Community Maternity Unit (CMU).

They take place every Monday morning in West Dunbartonshire Council’s pool in Alexandria.

Lesley Garry, one of the midwives who take the classes, said: “Apart from the physical benefits of maintaining a level of fitness, the women also achieve a feeling of wellbeing by taking part in a form of exercise.

“Pregnant women are limited in the in the kind of exercises they can do. Being in the pool means not only that they can take part in some physical exercise, it is also relaxing and soothing for some women who experience backache because of their pregnancy.”

Around 10 women at a time come along to the classes and close friendships have been built up to the point where around 20 mums recently held a reunion.

The classes are held on Mondays between 10am and 10.45am and for more information contact the CMU on 01389 817232.
