Pharmacy smoking cessation staff from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will be offering free help and advice to Christmas shoppers at Buchanan Galleries today (Wednesday, November 10).

They will be based at the shopping centre between 9am and 6pm as part of the national “Ask Your Pharmacist” week and will explain how pharmacists throughout the Board area can help people quit smoking.

Liz Grant, Public Health Pharmacist, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “The Smokefree Pharmacy Service has been a real success story with the majority of pharmacies throughout the Board area signed up to offer support to smokers who want to quit.

“Community pharmacies offer NRT and brief support for smokers for up to 12 weeks on a drop-in, no appointment necessary basis.

“We have found that people respond positively to this informal approach and this is reflected in quit rates.”

Quitters can also have their CO levels monitored and this is one of the health checks available at the shopping centre together with blood pressure testing.
