Local people are being offered the chance to tour two of the most modern hospitals in the UK – and they are right on their doorsteps!

The “keys” to the new Stobhill and Victoria hospitals have been handed over by the builder and now NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) are working intensively over the next few weeks fitting them out in advance of the first patients coming in.

Meanwhile the health board is offering tours of the two new £100 million Stobhill and Victoria Hospitals, but locals will have to be quick off the mark because attendance will be by pre-registration only on and on a first come, first served basis.

The special tours introducing the new Stobhill to their local communities will take place on Saturday April 25 and on Saturday May 16 for the Victoria.

Beginning at 10.00 am and finishing at 3.00 pm, the tours are setting off every 15 minutes and lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Alex McIntyre, NHSGGC’s Director of Facilities, said: “To familiarise the public now about how to use their new hospitals a number of measures have been taken.

“These include an essential guide about how to make best use of each hospital being produced and distributed to households in the catchment areas, plus credit card sized patient information brochures on how to use the Minor Injuries Units.

“This is all part of our commitment to make the community’s new hospital as user friendly as possible.”

Stobhill and Victoria will be two of Scotland’s largest hospitals, each covering four floors and an area the size of 30,000 square metres.

They will both provide a wide range of outpatient clinics, day surgery and diagnostic services and specialist health services such as cardiology, renal dialysis and gynaecology.
Twelve short stay surgical beds will also support the work at each of the sites, enabling clinicians to extend the range of surgical procedures offered, and at the Victoria there will be a further 48 inpatient beds for elderly rehabilitation.
Both hospitals will also have Minor Injuries Units, open between 9.00am and 9.00pm seven days a week, and staffed by Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs).

There is also a dedicated new hospitals website within the overall NHSGGC website and this can be found by logging onto
